If you have plantar fasciitis, you more than likely feel a lot of pain in the heel of your foot, especially when you're at rest. If you have this pain, it can feel like needles in the heel and possibly all the way up towards the toe. There is no cure for plantar fasciitis, but it can be treated so you have less pain or no pain at all. Plantar fasciitis can be treated at home with some exercises and some other treatment. Read on for some at-home treatment tips.

Rest and Relaxation

If you are experiencing pain from plantar fasciitis, you need to know when to rest and relax your feet. You may be overdoing things a bit, such as exercising too much, or are on your feet too much and need to take some time to rest and relax. If you have to be on your feet at work, when you get home, you need to rest your feet. If your exercise regimen is to blame, you should know when not to push yourself too hard and know when to relax as well to give your feet a break.

Stretches

Stretching can help with your plantar fasciitis as well. Stretching can help keep the ligament in your foot limber and keep it from getting too tight, which is what is causing you this pain to begin with. Stretch your feet by holding a towel tightly around the arch of your foot and pointing your toe down towards the floor and up towards the ceiling. Repeat this five times on one foot, then do the same on the other foot. You can also roll your foot across a water bottle, or a rolled-up towel on the floor. Rolling your foot across either of these things can help keep the ligament limber as well.

Pain Relievers

Over-the-counter pain relievers can also give you some relief from the pain you may have from plantar fasciitis. You shouldn't take any over-the-counter medication for too long, so consult your physician or podiatrist about taking pain relievers, even if they are over-the-counter. These can help to offer some temporary relief from the pain you feel, especially when your feet are in the most pain.
